In the video, astonished tourists look on in surprise at the huge Leatherback turtle who sits in the sand.

A man among them who is with a camera excitedly shoots the photos of the huge amazing turtle. This huge reptile crawls towards the sea through sand using its flippers.

After some time, after resting its flippers, the turtle reaches the lapping waves and pushes itself into the sea. After a while it disappears among the sea waves.

This video was uploaded to Facebook and filmed in an unknown place by Detroit DJ Robin Michael. There he says in his post: “The biggest turtle I have ever seen!”

Some Important Facts On The Leatherback Sea Turtle

The most important fact about the Leatherback turtles is that they are the largest turtles on Earth. They are growing up to seven feet in length. Leatherback turtles weigh exceeding 2,000 pounds. These turtles are the only remaining representative species of a family of turtles that traces its evolution back more than 100 million years. Once they were widespread in every ocean except the Arctic and Antarctic. But at present, the leatherback population is rapidly decreasing in many parts of the world.

However, due to the decrease of their population, several conservation laws have been implemented in countries around the world.

The main inhabiting places of these turtles are the Atlantic and Pacific oceans near the equatorial line. Many of them are to be found off the coast of Central America.

The only reasons for these turtles to crawl out of water is to dig their own nests during the nesting season and to lay their golf ball-size eggs in the sand.
